    A grandmother who uses a walker, her daughter and two children escaped unharmed from a fire that heavily damaged a home north of Grandview Road on Monday afternoon, June 29. The fire broke out about 5:45 p.m. in the back area of the home at 6955 Yukon Way , east of BP Cherry Point. People helped the grandmother to safety as the residents fled the fire, said Division Chief Jerry Martin of Whatcom County Fire District 7. A grandson arrived to find the home on fire.

Vargo of Bellingham and Korey C. Tiderington of Ferndale, both 20, were hurt when Vargo lost control on a curve and his 2003 Dodge pickup rolled, landing in the median on its wheels. Both men were taken by ambulance to Kittitas Valley Healthcare in Ellensburg, where they were treated and released.
