    Several members of the Friends of the Appomattox River met recently for a potluck lunch and to build bluebird houses. The houses, made of Virginia red cedar, are built to the specifications of the Virginia Bluebird Society and will be sold for $15 each at FAR's booth at the Heart of Virginia Festival on Saturday, May 2. Tuesday, April 28, 2015 The Heart of Virginia Beekeepers will meet on Tuesday, May 5, at 7 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Prince Edward County Extension Office across from Lowe's in Farmville.

    The Buckingham County Farm Bureau awarded the Buckingham County Future Farmers of America a new set of chapter jackets at the annual spring producer meeting held on Tuesday, April 14. FFA jackets are part of the required attire all active student members must wear when representing the club in public. Although students can purchase their own chapter jackets, jackets can run up to $80, a hefty expense for any student.

    Retail sales in Farmville fell by less than half a percent last year, according to data released this week by Town Treasurer Carol Anne Seal. Overall dollar volume fell more significantly, but that 6.44 percent drop was largely attributable to the approximately $27 million decline in the "contractors" category.
