    Jane Schirmer has announced her resignation as Chief Executive Officer of the Farmville-based Southside Virginia Family YMCA, effective Jan. 16. According to a statement from the YMCA, the association's board of directors chair Thomas V. Warren said the board accepted her resignation Monday night "and thanked her for her service of almost five years." "I am grateful for the opportunity I've had to work with this wonderful community in building a great YMCA organization here," Schirmer said in the statement.

    A single-vehicle accident at approximately 7:15 a.m. Tuesday on Route 460 East between Tuggle and the Dowdy's Corner exit to Farmville sent a tractor-trailer over the guardrail. Responders from the Prince Edward Sheriff's Department, Farmville Fire Department and Prince Edward Volunteer Rescue Squad arrived on scene at about 7:30 a.m. Witnesses reported that the driver, although still trapped inside the cab, was able to speak to them.
