    The Michigan Court of Appeals has agreed to hear a zoning dispute between a mid-Michigan township and Nestle Waters North America. On July 18, the state's highest appellate court agreed to hear Osceola Township's appeal of a circuit court judge's ruling last winter, which overturned a local zoning denial that's blocking Nestle from expanding its water bottling system near Evart.

    The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality has granted permits for eight solution mining wells and three non-hazardous brine disposal wells for a potash mining operation, despite environmental opposition to the project. The permits were granted June 1 for the proposed potash mining operation in an Osceola County wetland complex that is approved to use 725 million gallons of Michigan groundwater per year, according to the DEQ.

The group, which previously sued Nestle over its water withdrawals in Michigan, claims the state did not follow the law when it conditionally blessed Nestle's bid to withdrawal more water from a well drawing from a spring aquifer in Osceola County.
