    No traces of Saturday morning's fatal shooting and subsequent homicide investigation were found in neighborhood on 15th Street in Eureka during the late morning. Casey Joseph Campbell of Eureka was found shot in the middle of the street earlier around 4 a.m. and ultimately perished from his wounds.

    Since it opened in 2011, Eureka's Extreme Weather Winter Shelter has been offering protection when the National Weather Service issues alerts, according to a press release from Eureka Main Street, the shelter's nonprofit administrator. From November 2011 to March 2014 the NWS has issued 83 alerts for the area and the shelter was open on 40 of those days, offering shelter to 585 men over the past four years, the release stated.
