    Nic Peters showed he came ready for his senior cross country season by winning the season opener at Spencer on Thursday. The two-time Estherville Lincoln Central state qualifier battled North Union's Riley Bauer for the top spot end ended up winning the 5K race by 10 seconds, finishing in 17 minutes, 3.19 seconds compared to Bauer's 17:13.71.

    During the public forum of the Emmet County Board of Supervisors meeting, Estherville City Administrator Penny Clayton introduced Lyle Hevern as the new Economic Development Director. In other business, the public hearing for Joel Jacobsen new hog confinement site, located in Section 22 of High Lake Township, was tabled and will continue at next week's meeting at 9:45 a.m. The decision to table the public hearing was due to the board wanting to visit with DNR to find out information regarding the separation distances for two ponds located near the site.

    Lyle Hevern was introduced as the new Emmet County Economic Development Director to both the Estherville City Council on Monday and to the Emmet County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday After several months of doing a search process which including a committee reviewing resumes and interviewing applicants, the Estherville and Emmet County Economic Board selected Hevern for the position. "It's a thrill for me to have the opportunity to work to help Estherville and Emmet County be a better place," said Hevern.
