A group of citizens in Stansbury Park, with assistance from the Live Fit Tooele County coalition, has received a grant from the National Parks Service.

    Tooele County and its municipalities are now united in opposing the relocation of the Utah State Prison to Tooele Valley. "It is not in Tooele Valley's or Tooele County's best interest to support the relocation of the Utah State Prison to the Tooele Valley or Tooele County," reads a resolution unanimously approved by the Tooele County Council of Governments during their Jan. 15 meeting.

    When it comes to the Utah State Prison's possible relocation to Miller Motorsports Business Park in the middle of Tooele Valley, we're delighted and relieved to see so many local officials and citizens realize how valuable that property is to Tooele County's future - before it's too late. Community outcry has steadily increased since the state's Prison Relocation Commission announced on Dec. 2 that the Miller Motorsports Business Park - located on Sheep Lane and across the street from Miller Motorsports Park and Deseret Peak Complex - is one of six potential finalists for the new prison.

    An inmate from the Tooele County Detention Center escaped from a work detail last week but was caught over the weekend. Tooele County Sheriff Frank Park said Nicholas Anderson, 41, was on a work detail at Deseret Peak Complex last Tuesday when he rode a work ATV to the complex's fence, jumped over the fence, got in a black SUV waiting in the area and drove away.
