    Surry County will provide money toward the garnering of an easement for a new sewer line, but the Yadkin Valley Sewer Authority will have to pave the way for that easement. Monday evening the Surry County Board of Commissioners emerged from a closed session to cast a vote regarding a sewer line which is planned to run to Weyerhaeuser, a large Elkin-area employer which produces OSB board also known as chipboard.

    Each year, for more than 50 years, the Elkin Valley Baptist Church congregation has been sharing the story of Jesus' birth through a live nativity scene, and last year, the church members added an entire village of Bethlehem to its outreach, coining the presentation the Bethlehem Experience. The idea was to take the live nativity scene and make it more interactive and meaningful for those who visit for the Christmas event.

    Darren Quinn Byrd, 29, of Cane Mill Road, Ronda, was charged on Oct. 24 with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle, adding to the citations received the day of the Oct. 10 wreck for driving while license revoked for impaired revocation and unsafe movement. According to the incident report, at about 2:40 p.m. on Oct. 10, Byrd collided with a 2015 Harley Davidson motorcycle being driven by Byron Lee Brown, 42, of Austin Traphill Road, Elkin.
