    The Elizabeth City Fire Department will continue providing fire protection to Pasquotank County residents who live just outside the city limits, following city and county officials' renewal of a three-year agreement. Pasquotank commissioners finalized the deal affecting the county's Central Fire District on Monday, a week after City Council gave its approval on Oct. 30. The agreement, which begins July 1, 2018 and ends June 30, 2021, requires the county to pay the city more than $400,000 per year.

    The Elizabeth City City Council withheld its support for the Atlantic Coast Pipeline last week, apparently determining that the major natural gas pipeline conflicts with its commitment to fight climate change. During the council's Oct. 30 meeting, City Manager Rich Olson presented a resolution supporting the roughly 600-mile pipeline that would run from the Appalachian Basin through Virginia and across North Carolina, running from Northampton through Robeson counties.

The council approved $20,000 to the tentatively named "Elizabeth City Brewing Company" for rehabilitation of the three-story Hurdle Hardware building at 112 N. Water St. The company, otherwise known as "HCWGMW2 LLC", purchased the property in early September for $475,000, according to Pasquotank County tax officials.
