    During Elgin's January town council meeting, Elgin Police Department Police Chief Harold Brown reported that 65 families were served during Elgin's Toy Round Up -- a record. Brown also informed council that 152 children were served 49 food baskets distributed and 25 fruit baskets for senior citizens were distributed.

    Kershaw County Council will discuss bids for a sheriff's patrol car and construction of an EMS station during its first meeting of 2017 today at 5:30 p.m. One of the Kershaw County Sheriff's Office's patrol cars was struck head-on in an accident involving several other vehicles last year. The car was declared a total loss and KCSO received insurance compensation to replace the car, however, there is some added expense to equip the vehicle.

    During Thanksgiving week, Kershaw County Sheriff's Office investigators arrested and charged five individuals with 2-17 counts of breaking into a motor vehicle, receiving stolen goods and burglary . According to a press release from KCSO, those arrested and charged were Gregory Cooper McCarley of Welsh Street in Camden, 21, Mikkel Demond Bush, 22, from Pine Street in Camden, Marquez Armani Robinson, 19, from Amelia Street in Camden, Ty'Reek Lorenzo Bush-Robinson, 20, also of Amelia Street, and Victoria Pierce,19, of Copeland Circle in Camden.
