    On September 20, 2016, at about 8:46 pm, officers of the Silver City Police Department responded to the area of E. Broadway Street and N. Hudson Street in Silver City, in reference to a reported vehicle/pedestrian crash with injuries. According to the preliminary investigation, a pedestrian, a 38-year-old female, was walking eastward across Hudson Street, from the Visitors Center towards the Hudson Street Snappy Mart, when she was hit by a white 2004 Chevy 4-door car, driven by a 25-year-old female, which was traveling south on the inside lane on Hudson Street.

    On a gray Tuesday morning, Sept. 20, 2016, a World War II veteran, Curtis Lile Maxwell, Jr. was laid to rest at Fort Bayard National Cemetery Born July 11, 1924, he joined the Marine Corps in 1943, where he served in the Fifth Marine Division as an expert in the Signal Corps with Code Talkers on the island of Iwo Jima in World War II.

Clara Bustillos, one of the members and organizers, said 153 entries were shown all around the park. "We have 110 from out of town, but El Paso, Texas; Las Cruces Lordsburg, Hillsboro and many from Grant County, NM; Tucson, Orale, Hereford and Bisbee, Arizona, with Phoenix probably being the farthest."
