It was the second showdown in the U.S. 5th Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans between the state and those who sued to stop the implementation of Senate Bill 4, which include the cities of Houston, Austin, San Antonio and El Cenizo, as well as Maverick and El Paso counties.

    The Denton City Council voted 6-1 to adopt a resolution supporting the city of El Cenizo in its lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of Senate Bill 4. The so-called "sanctuary city" bill subjects Texas sheriffs and police chiefs who don't cooperate with federal immigration enforcement officials to penalties. Elected law enforcement officers could be removed from office.
