    The Independence Police Department said they were responding to a report of a theft involving a red Chevy pickup that was pulling a trailer just after 6 p.m. An officer tried to stop the driver, 20-year-old Graham Charles Timme of Eau Claire, on Highway 93. Police say Timme wouldn't stop and took off. They said speeds reached over 100 miles-per-hour during the chase.

In a letter to members of the Lay Employees' Retirement Plan, Bishop William Patrick Callahan says the diocese is terminating the pension plan, which was frozen in 2007 and had been underfunded for years.

Tomah police say they initially stopped 35-year old Anthony Sherwin for a traffic violation at 2:52 AM on December 29. After searching the car Tomah Police say they discovered, "An improvised explosive device consisting of several types of explosive powder and steel shot in a glass jar."

    The Wisconsin State Patrol in Eau Claire said the crash happened east of Osseo on U.S. 10 westbound near County Trunk Highway G in Garfield Township around 5:11 p.m. Wednesday.
