Wednesday night's four-hour hearing, preceded by a 90-minute open-house, was the first of two opportunities the public has to comment on the controversial project before a federal agency decides whether to approve or veto the application by Liberty LLC. While Liberty says the proposed terminal would bring jobs and a steady supply of natural gas to the region, opponents contend the abundance of natural gas in the United States makes the import facility unnecessary.
