    In 1915: The large number of bootleg cases coming from Champaign is said to have prevented the removal of the federal court from Danville to East St. Louis when the matter was brought up for consideration in Washington recently. The home of the court is in Danville, but the court also sits in East St. Louis and Cairo, although few trials are conducted there.

    The objection, filed by Mark Hewitt of Champaign, alleges that the mayor, a candidate for election to a second term, did not include a receipt showing that the filing of a statement of economic interests with the county clerk's office was included. "A purported copy of the statement was filed but this is not what was specifically and explicitly required by the Illinois Election Code," Hewitt wrote in his objection which was filed about 2-1/2 hours before the deadline to make objections.

    An East St. Louis man who admitted he planned to sell less than a gram of heroin earlier this year has been sentenced to three years in prison. Aaron Broadnax, 28, pleaded guilty Monday before Champaign County Judge Heidi Ladd to a reduced charge of unlawful possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance.
