    A San Jose man who pleaded no contest to driving with over .08 percent blood alcohol and injuring his girlfriend after he crashed his car on an East Palo Alto stretch of Highway 101 in July was sentenced to 49 days in county jail and three years of supervised probation Wednesday, according to the San Mateo County District Attorney's Office. David Mendez, 23, was driving south when he passed the University Avenue on-ramp and collided with the center guardrail just before 3 a.m. July 28. When California Highway Patrol officers arrived at the scene, they found Mendez's car blocking two lanes of traffic while he and his girlfriend, a passenger in the car, stood next to the median, according to prosecutors.
