For the past 80 years, the Eastern Connecticut Conference has overseen athletic competition between its member high schools, which now number 18.     Mashantucket - Numerous law enforcement agencies on Thursday participated in an active shooter exercise hosted by the Law Enforcement Council at the Tanger Outlets at Foxwoods. The exercise was conducted to test the efficiency and readiness of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Police Department and the mutual aid response of area police, fire and EMS departments, according to Mashantucket Police Chief William Dittman.

In boys' soccer, Norwich Free Academy's Santiago Manrique was named to the Class LL all-state team and Foster and New London's Wadlet Jean-Baptiste to the Class L team. Waterford's Dan Castelpoggi and Steve Lavoie and Montville's Lucas Chaude and Noah Cook were named to the Class M team and Old Lyme's Alex Bellas and Brett Hartmann were honored in Class S. East Lyme's Theresa Durkee and Stephanie deLaforcade were named to the Class L team in girls' soccer.

    East Lyme - The Board of Education and the schools' superintendent said Monday they will need to discuss the higher-than-expected tax increases associated with the elementary schools' proposal with town boards before moving forward with the project.   The board has been pursuing a proposal, estimated at about $58 million after state reimbursement, to renovate Niantic Center School, build a new Flanders Elementary School, and give the Lillie B. Haynes School building to the town.  The board took no specific action at its meeting Monday, but began discussions on how to proceed after listening to a presentation from the town's finance director, Anna Johnson, about the projected debt service and tax increases.
