    Pickens County Council held a special called meeting April 20 and voted unanimously to proceed with investigating whether legal action can be taken against The Easley Progress, Pickens Sentinel, parent company Civitas Media, and staff writer D. C. Moody. According to the motion made by Chair Jennifer Willis and seconded by Vice Chairman Trey Whitehurst, council tasked county attorney Ken Roper with finding out if the county could seek legal action for articles published by The Easley Progress and The Pickens Sentinel about the resignation of the former county administrator.

    It appears as if a lawsuit against the City of Easley by Pickens County will move forward, with the city having no indication as to what county council is asking for over disputed tax funds. "All I've seen is what happened at county council last week where they voted to bring in outside council and move forward with a suit," Easley Mayor Larry Bagwell said.

In December 2012, Pickens County deputies said Jerry Dudley lured the child to a wooded area behind his home on Apple Hill Road in Easley and sexually assaulted the child, who was hospitalized after the attack.
