    Twenty-seven-year-old Raymond Jay Stewart of Durant had been scheduled to be sentenced this past Monday for the beating death of 23-year-old Steven Lee Sessums of Mead. The courthouse closed early that day due to weather although the decision was to postpone the hearing was decided on Feb. 20 when the district attorney's office and Stewart's attorneys agreed to reschedule the sentencing hearing to March 5, according to a court document.

    A Durant man convicted of second-degree murder for a beating that resulted in the victim's death is scheduled to be sentenced Monday. Twenty-seven-year-old Raymond Jay Stewart entered a blind plea of no contest to second-degree murder on Jan. 21. He originally was charged with first-degree murder for beating 23-year-old Steven Lee Sessums of Mead, and then reportedly while Sessums was unconscious but alive, pushing him off a bridge into a creek.

Phelps said according to state law Title 47 Section 11-901B, drivers are to give their full attention to driving but can only be pulled over or ticketed for distracted or inattentive driving if they cause an accident or are describable causing danger to others.
