    Seven Texas Panhandle veterans who served in the First Special Service Force during World War II have posthumously received the highest honor for civilians in the United States, the Congressional Gold Medal. Janet Smith of Dumas said her father, Albert G. Stanton, served with the First Special Service Force and was stationed in places including Northern Africa and Naples before returning home to work in the oil fields of southern Oklahoma.
