    Josh Carter scored 18 points and Dubuque Wahlert held off a late charge to beat Le Mars 46-38 Saturday and win its second consecutive Class 3A state championship. Carter's 12 points in the final 5 1/2 minutes, including a 3-pointer and 7-for-8 free throw shooting, enabled the Golden Eagles to keep the Bulldogs at bay and give the school its fifth basketball title.

    Raymond Gonzales will spend the rest of his life in prison for the murder of 28-year-old Bonnie Baker at a mobile home park in South Sioux City, Nebraska. In December of 2014, a Dakota County jury found Gonzales guilty of first-degree murder and use of a firearm to commit a felony.

    Fires at the site of an eastern Iowa freight train derailment are out but ethanol is leaking into the Mississippi River and the task turned to monitoring for environmental impact and offloading the fuel from derailed trains to empty cars. The cars went off the tracks at 11:20 a.m. Wednesday in a remote area about 10 miles north of Dubuque.
