    With the opening of the Metro Gold Line Extension earlier this year, five new San Gabriel Valley communities will be able to take rail to the Tournament of Roses celebrations in Pasadena for the first time in modern memory. The cities of Arcadia, Monrovia, Duarte/City of Hope, Irwindale and Azusa can now make history by bypassing traffic congestion and parking hassles in Pasadena and riding Metro directly to and from these world-renowned festivities that include the Rose Parade, Rose Bowl Game and post-parade float-viewing.

    They'll be speaking Mandarin on the campus of Duarte High School for three weeks, starting Aug. 22, thanks to a program that is bringing 30 Chinese students from Zhejiang Province for a cultural exchange visit. The 30 students are visiting from Ningbo Binhai International Cooperative High School and chose Duarte for its diverse population and its proximity to the large Asian community in the east San Gabriel Valley.

Antonovich and Duarte City Council Member John Fasana announced new schedule improvements for the Metro Gold Line, effective Monday, June 27, that will substantially improve rail service for cities along the new extension to Azusa.
