    A 29-year-old Dresden man pleaded guilty on Tuesday to conspiring with others to sell heroin and crack cocaine throughout central Maine in 2015 and 2016. Daniel Pallis faces a maximum of 20 years in prison, a $1 million fine and at least three years of probation, according to a release from acting U.S. Attorney Richard W. Murphy.

    The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office on Monday released the names of two people injured in a Friday morning crash that killed an elderly Connecticut woman. Just before 9:30 a.m. Friday, a 2010 Chevrolet Malibu driven by 24-year-old Patrick J. Shorey of Augusta crossed the centerline on Route 27 near the Dresden-Wiscasset border and struck a 1995 Toyota Camry driven by Carolyn G. Blouin of Rockville, Connecticut.

    Longtime assistant district attorney Jonathan Liberman was sworn in Friday as district attorney for the prosecutorial district that includes Sagadahoc, Lincoln, Knox and Waldo counties. Liberman of Bath replaces Geoffrey Rushlau of Dresden, who was nominated by Gov. Paul LePage to a district court judgeship in March, and has since been confirmed by the Maine Senate.

    A 36-year-old Dresden man serving 18 years in prison for raping a 14-year-old in a Delaware motel will be arraigned March 23 on federal charges that include production, possession and receipt of child pornography and coercion and enticement of a minor stemming from the same incident. James I. Allen pleaded guilty in January to three counts of third-degree rape and one count of sexual exploitation of a child after police said he sexually assaulted the teen, who reportedly ran away from home.

    State fire marshal's office investigators have determined that smoking was the likely cause of a fire earlier this week that destroyed a transitional housing center , Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland said Friday.     The Freedom Center at 633 Gardiner Road, also known as Route 27, was the temporary home of 12 individuals in recovery and the primary residence of Executive Director Jan Burns at the time of the blaze, Assistant Director Keven Vachon said. All residents made it safely out of the building and are being provided temporary shelter in Augusta through the Red Cross, Vachon said.
