    Kinston Public Services workers, contractors and Department of Transportation crews just can't seem to get a break from the rain.  After a couple of delays caused by the weather a two-block section on Hardee Road, work finally got started Friday morning. But later in the day the rains rolled back in and the project was pushed back to this week.  Rhonda Barwick, director of Kinston Public Services, said on Friday workers started milling one side of Hardee Road from Hampton Drive to Essex Street.  “But they had to stop,” she said.

    Contractors are gearing up for spring road projects with several state roads earmarked for repaving in Lenoir, Greene and Jones counties along with the replacement of two old bridges.  Work to replace Bridge a 100-foot bridge on Strawberry Branch Road began at the end of last month and should be in place by May 22. S.T. Wooten of Wilson is the contractor on the $655,000 replacement project.  Work has just started also on the replacement of a 60-foot bridge on Ash Davis Road. T.A. Loving, a contractor out of Goldsboro is replacing the structure, scheduled for completion June 26 at a cost of $578,000, Bullard said.  “The work on the Ash Davis Road bridge is starting this week,” he said.

    More arrests have been made and more than a dozen warrants have been issued in connection with a dog fighting incident in Kinston. On Oct. 21, officers with the Kinston Police Department responded to 403 Sherman St. after receiving a complaint about dog fighting.
