The proposal for a formal hearing on the issue was sponsored by Councilors Kim Janey , Frank Baker and Ed Flynn - whose neighborhoods converge along the Methadone Mile on Melnea Cass Boulevard and Massachusetts Avenue.

    Boston Police report arresting a Mattapan man on gun charges in Dorchester yesterday after, they say, he began to run, pulled out a gun and then slammed right into the cruiser he failed to notice an officer had driven onto the sidewalk to block his way because he was too busy looking back at the officers chasing him. Police say the action began shortly after 1 p.m., when gang unit officers were doing a stake out in the area of 22 Leroy St., looking for a guy they wanted on a warrant.

    Kevin Woods, 19, of Dorchester, had his bail on gun-related charges for a South Boston incident in which he allegedly fired shots while riding a scooter revoked yesterday at his arraignment on charges he shot somebody in the head while a passenger on a scooter on Centre Street in Dorchester yesterday. His alleged driver, a 17-year-old not named because of his age, had his bail set at $250,000 for his role in the shooting, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.

Travis Lee told the board he is working with state and city agencies to secure some financing that would let him market all ten units as affordable, to be rented to people making no more than 80% of the Boston area's median income.

    The Supreme Judicial Court today upheld Crisostomo Lopes's sentence of life without parole for his role in the murder of 14-year-old Nicholas Fomby-Davis on Bowdoin Street in 2010 - as a Boston gang officer watched helplessly from down the street. The state's highest court ruled Lopes got a fair trial and deserves to spend the rest of his life behind bars for his conviction on a charge of first-degree murder.

    The Conservatory Lab Charter School has filed plans with the city to build a new $25-million school for its 275 students in grades 3 through 8 at Columbia Road and Quincy Street. If approved, the school hopes to move the students out of leased space at 2120 Dorchester Ave., next to Carney Hospital, at the start of the 2019-20 school year, with construction to start this coming April.
