    Downtown Elkin will be down to one bank branch after mid-October when Wells Fargo will be closing its doors. Josh Dunn, corporate communications consultant for Wells Fargo's Charlotte region, confirmed Friday at rumors among business owners downtown are indeed true, and added that the bank will close its Elkin Main branch on Oct. 18. "With the consolidation of the Elkin Main and Elkin Village branches, customers will still have other Wells Fargo banking options located nearby," Dunn said in his email response about the closure.
