Main St. is closed for renovations, the four-week project is set to conclude in August, resulting in a more modern look with more family-friendly features, according to a franchise spokesperson and the project's contractor. Russell Enterprises based in Farmville - which owns and operates McDonald's locations in Dillwyn, Appomattox and Madison Heights - is spearheading the renovations.

    A Cumberland County man is seeking a conditional use permit to operate a general store at the intersection of Plank and Airport roads that would be managed by and operated primarily for families in the Amish community and those living in the surrounding area. County Planning Director Sara Carter said Benjamin Lapp submitted an application for a conditional use permit for Lapp Store, which would sell bulk foods.

    Another Farmville Area Habitat for Humanity project for a mother and her two children in Dillwyn came to a close Saturday when the organization held a dedication for the home. Marquita Scott said she and her children, Sakia White, 15, and Xavier Crenshaw, 13, moved into the home Monday after being involved in the Habitat process roughly two and a half years.

    Fire units from Glenmore, Toga and Dillwyn volunteer fire departments responded to a brush fire call at 237 Karuna Lane in Buckingham, quickly discovering the fire had fully the home. The initial call went out at 10:37 p.m. When units responded to the scene, an open-floor log cabin on the property was in flames, according to Glenmore Volunteer Fire Department Asst.
