    The passenger of an 18-wheeler was ejected from the freight liner and died early Friday morning on Greenwell Springs Road after the driver ran off the road and hit a tree, according to Louisiana State Police. Richard Boudreaux, 47, of Denham Springs died on the scene of the wreck around 8 a.m. as Donald Gill, 59, also of Denham Springs drove southbound on Greenwell Springs south of Weiss Road, police say.

    A Louisiana state appeals court has affirmed the murder conviction and sentence of mandatory life in prison without parole for the Denham Springs man who injected his girlfriend with heroin hours before her overdose death in 2013. Jarret McCasland will appeal again to the Louisiana Supreme Court, said his lawyer Chris Alexander, who argues Louisiana's law mandates a cruel and unusual punishment for a defendant he described as a drug addict who had no intent to kill.
