    DEMING >> The Deming Public Schools recently announced approval of a new school calendar for students in third grade or younger returning to classes next year. The calendar for students in kindergarten to third grade will include an additional 25 school days and bring the end of the school year to Thursday, June 9, instead of the traditional date in May. They will begin the school year on July 8, and students in grades four through 12 will begin on August 17. "It's going to be hard for everyone, but we need to give it a try," said Bataan Elementary Instructional Leader Norma Coker.

    Early Monday, Border Patrol Agents in Deming, New Mexico gave chase to a vehicle that ultimately resulted in the capture of an alien smuggler and the arrest of six passengers. On April 13, a Chevrolet Silverado truck was seen by a Deming Agent pulling off to the shoulder of the eastbound lane of Interstate 10. The driver, wearing an orange safety vest, made a U-turn across the interstate and entered onto the westbound lanes where he stopped again on the shoulder.
