Jim was born on June 12, 1933 in Bessemer, AL, one of 10 children of the late Willis and Mary Jane Shirley Sr. He served in the Army during the Korean War from 5/18/1954 to 5/17/1957.

Cider and doughnuts will be served and costume judging will be held.

    After years of trying to obtain funding, a new playground for the children of the village will become a reality after July 20. Seeing the need to replace aging and unsafe playground equipment at Millach Field on Riverside Drive, Trustee Nancy R. Dutton spearheaded a project to create the new one. According to Mayor Janet M. Zando, who was the village historian for a number of years, the original equipment - a swing bar and monkey bars - were built by the now-defunct St. Regis Paper Co.
