    Eloise Ogden/MDN Numerous people representing Minot's Roosevelt Park Zoo or with a special interest in the zoo broke ground on Tuesday for the new cat habitat at the zoo. A $6 milllion, three-phase project, it is projected to be completed by the zoo's centennial year in 2021.

    Four people were injured in a two-vehicle accident two miles south of Deering on Tuesday afternoon, according to a press release from the Highway Patrol. Dominic Nickle, 43, of Deering, was driving a 1987 Kenworth four-axle dump truck west on 63rd Street North with a load of gravel and failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection of 63rd Street and Ward County Road 23, according to the Patrol.

    Eleven Ward County 4-H members showcased their public speaking abilities at the annual 4-H Communication Arts Contest in Minot on May 1. The group consisted of Elizabeth and Makayla Kraft, Minot; Sadie Lemer, Berthold; Dalyce Leslie, Deering; Tyson Perdue, Minot; Lydia Repnow, Minot; Garrett, Raelyn and Trent Williams, Ryder; and Austin and Molly Wingenbach, Minot. The contest is divided into Senior, Junior and Cloverbud divisions.

    A $500,000 grant has been awarded to Turtle Mountain Community College in Belcourt for commercial vehicle operations and welding programs, the North Dakota Department of Commerce announced Thursday. The North Dakota Legislature authorized $500,000 in workforce development grants for tribally controlled community colleges.

    A North Dakota Game and Fish Department warden responding to a tip called in to the Report All Poachers hotline discovered dead deer in or near the Klein farmstead. Some reports have the number of dead and wounded deer as high as 29. According to a probable cause affidavit filed with the northeast district court in Rugby, NDG&F Warden Jonathon Peterson interviewed Klein and that Klein "admitted he had shot the deer with a Stevens model 2000 caliber .22-250 and gave that rifle to Game Warden Peterson."
