    Local legislators held a press conference July 7 to formally call for Maine Department of Environmental Protection, Board of Environmental Protection and Department of Marine Resources to require the Army Corps of Engineers and Maine Department of Transportation to conduct an Environmental Impact Statement for the proposed expansion dredging of Searsport Harbor. The purpose of the project, which would involve dredging nearly 1 million cubic yards of material from the bay floor and disposing of it at a site in Penobscot Bay northwest of Islesboro, is to accommodate larger cargo ships at Mack Point, according to previously published reports.

    The Searsport baseball team continued its hot start to begin the high school regular season with a pair of recent victories over Deer Isle-Stonington. First, the Vikings hosted the Mariners on Wednesday, May 6 and came away with a 12-2 win, while the following day, on Thursday, May 7, Searsport traveled to the island and again dominated from start to finish en route to a 16-4 win.
