    MIDDLEBORO - For the second year in a row, Middleboro Youth Soccer's U19 and U12 girls' teams both made a run for a state championship, and this past weekend the two MYSA team played at the Massachusetts Tournament of Champions at Mass Youth Soccer's Progin Park Fields in Lancaster. By winning the Division 1 Coastal League Championship in their respective age groups, the U19 and U12 teams earned the right to compete at the Massachusetts Tournament of Champions.

    The New Bedford Bay Sox open the 2015 season tonight in Wakefield, Rhode Island, when they play the Ocean State Waves at 6:05 p.m. The Bay Sox will send southpaw Howard Brey from Rutgers University to the mound. Brey features four pitches - a fastball, curveball, changeup and slider - which he hopes will keep New England Collegiate Baseball League batters off balance.

    The Somerset Berkley Regional High School wrestling team not only won the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association Division 3 state championship on Sunday, but the Blue Raiders did it in style with their heavyweight winning the clinching match in an ultimate tiebreaker. "It was simply amazing," SBRHS coach Mike McMahon said.

    A bill making its way through the Legislature in the final days of the 2013-2014 legislative session would allow cities and towns to grant liquor licenses to continuing-care retirement facilities.  The bill passed in the Senate during a session Thursday morning. The House version of the bill cleared that branch in July.  Rep. Paul McMurtry, a Democrat from Dedham who filed the legislation, said some continuing care retirement facilities have dining rooms and restaurants that are equivalent to "five star restaurants."
