    After last year finishing as the runner-up, the Decorah girls distance medley relay came home with gold Friday at the state track meet. The Viking quartet of Kayla Quandahl, Sarah Mikkelson, Brooke Berns and Katie Nimrod won the event Friday afternoon at the state meet in Des Moines, posting a winning time of 4:09.67.

As a part of its sesquicentennial activities, the Porter House will host a free and informative Garden Walk beginning at 4 p.m., with information provided by local botanist, Peter van der Linden. Peter van der Linden and his wife, Judy, have lived in Decorah for two years, and they are both active volunteers in the Porter House gardens.

    The discussion on how to replace one of the Decorah Fire Department's three, full-time paid drivers will continue at the Decorah City Council's next regular meeting Monday, June 5. At the conclusion of Monday night's Council meeting, Council member Gary Rustad suggested a personnel meeting be scheduled to continue talks on how to replace driver Phil Hardy, who is retiring. But Kirk Johnson, chair of the Council's personnel committee, said since the committee consists of all Council members, the meeting should be held during a regular Council meeting in the "full light of day."

    The Turkey Valley boys golf team totaled 428 strokes for sixth place at its sectional meet in Nashua Friday, May 12. Two Trojan seniors, Nathan Mueterthies and Kelby Reicks , were the top performers for the team, followed by Simon Schmitt, who shot 108. Also competing for Turkey Valley were Keegan Balk , Gabe Hoffert and Jason Herold .
