    The city of Decorah's residential tax abatement program continues to be successful, City Manager Chad Bird told the Decorah City Council last week. He said 15 new single family homes valued at $5.7 million have been constructed taking advantage of the program this year, while last year the new home construction was about $3 million.

During the show, he will play American roots music, and share portions of the Alaska String Band's "Southeast Alaskan Odyssey" -- an interactive performance including photographs, music and narration and featuring a film produced by the band that will be aired on PBS this winter.

    Decorah officials are taking the opportunity to plan for future growth in conjunction with the Iowa Department of Transportation's Highway 9 and Highway 52 intersection reconstruction project. Monday night, the Decorah City Council approved a preconstruction agreement with the DOT for the project that includes the city contributing about $60,200 to have the DOT install utility casings or tubes under the Highway during the construction.
