Taking its "A" game to the courts, the Decorah girls' tennis team finished second in the North Central Conference tennis tournament in Waverly Saturday, finishing behind what Coach Larry Berland called "an A+" Waverly-Shell Rock performance.

Forced from action for over a week due to cold temps, snow and ice, the Decorah boys' tennis team held a highly contested match versus Clear Lake Friday, with five of the nine matches ending in a third set super tie-breaker.

With the game rescheduled from earlier in the week, the Vikings played without six regular varsity athletes, who had previous engagements scheduled for out-of-town.

    The Winneshiek County Pioneer Cemetery Commission invites everyone to two Civil War veterans' stone rededications Saturday, April 28. At 11 a.m. the dedication of Thomas Murphy's new military stone is at the Young/Riha Cemetery, outside of Fort Atkinson. Murphy enlisted in the Army at 16 and was captured at the Battle of Shiloh, survived and re-enlisted.

The author will lead two free events at Dragonfly Books. Illustration for Kids is at 10 a.m. Children ages 5 and over are invited to attend a morning of illustration and instruction, when Hannigan will lead kids through simple methods of drawing to create fun illustrations of their own.
