    Alaska's Division of Oil and Gas has approved an application by Alliance Exploration LLC to form the Guitar unit on the North Slope, adjacent the southwest side of the Prudhoe Bay unit. Alliance had originally called the proposed unit Hemi Springs but had later requested a name change to Guitar, according to the division approval document, issued on Aug. 23. The unit consists of three state leases situated about 17.5 miles west-northwest of Deadhorse.

    Accumulate Energy Alaska Inc., the local operating company for Australia-based 88 Energy, has begun permitting for two winter exploration wells - Bravo 1 and Charlie 1. The company has drilled two Icewine wells from the Franklin Bluffs gravel pad south of Deadhorse and adjacent to the Dalton Highway, and is testing Icewine 2. Because the existing gravel pad is accessible year-round, that work did not require ice roads or ice pads. The new wells will be 22 to 25 miles west of the Franklin Bluff gravel pad, Accumulate said in an application to the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation for an update its oil discharge prevention and contingency plan.

    MagTec Alaska LLC, a Kenai-based oil and gas support services and equipment rental company since 2008, announced that it has sold a portion of its North Slope equipment assets and its Prudhoe Bay shop facility to Delta Leasing. MagTec will focus its North Slope business unit to concentrate on North Slope drilling support, with expanded offerings including new rig mats, a large inventory of storage and service tanks, glycol heaters, steam boilers, envirovacs and complete tank farm packages to support any project.
