We use CryptoComplete and FieldProcs. Regardless of the user's authority to the encrypted value, nothing happens to the field value if it's not changed when other fields are.

The vendor may want a configuration change of some sort. So, I will wait to recycle it until I know for sure.

Using the command approach will work under all circumstances where the correct definition of the parms is known and represented in the command. I was alluding to the possibility that nothing can defend you against the issues that can arise from passing 30 characters to a program that expects 40. Sorry - should have been clearer in my post.

I honestly don't know. You might want to talk to Scott Klement about that. I just used to transfer objects between systems.

Way back when, we used CA products for edit tools but it was still a PITA...lol Although CICS was solid communications interface, I was glad to leave the "conversational" world and move to the midrange where most of the grunt work was done by the OS ... and "smart" files :) Terry -----Original Message----- From: MIDRANGE-L On Behalf Of Jon Paris Sent: Thursday, June 07, 2018 3:32 PM To: Midrange-L Midrange-l Subject: [EXTERNAL] Re: New IT personnel What the heck tool were you using on Mainframe that made it easier Dave? I have used both ISPF and CICS and would describe COBOL on IBM i as a breeze compared with either. Heck not having to worry about state is a blessing.

Dave, On the IBM i, you can also "just move the desired attribute to the screen fields right along with the data." Jun 7, 2018 | Midrange-l mailing list

Art, you are using NEXT VALUE to get the next value for a sequence, but you can also use PREVIOUS VALUE to retrieve the last value generated by NEXT VALUE. And you can use PREVIOUS VALUE as many times as you want, and will always get the same value until the next time you use NEXT VALUE.

We use an MQT for a very large join that takes too long to materialize at execution time.
