    Luzerne County Judge David Lupas determined during a brief pre-trial conference Friday that the trial should be rescheduled to start later than its initial scheduled date of Feb. 29. Lupas scheduled another pre-trial conference for Feb. 16 at 9 a.m. to determine who Scavone's lawyer will be. In a filing earlier this month, attorney John Pike said Scavone can't afford a private attorney nor the costs of litigation.

    In a filing Tuesday, defense attorney John Pike says Scavone cannot afford a private attorney nor the costs of litigation, and instead will require a lawyer from the public defender's office. Scavone, 50, remains jailed at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility with bail set at $400,000 on vehicular homicide and related charges in the death of triathlete Paula Jones, 31, last summer.

The music outreach ministry associated with Gate of Heaven Church, Dallas, apparently netted enough viewers' choice votes in the contest sponsored by WBRE-TV, WYOU and Wyoming Valley Motors, to capture honors and be featured in the Wyoming Valley Motors pre-game commercial, singing the dealership's signature jingle.

Sklarosky Jr. reduced bail for Robert Joseph Pellegrini, the casino's former vice president of player development, and gambler Mark Joseph Heltzel after their attorneys requested expedited bail hearings to address bond set at half a million dollars last week.
