Parker Boggs, announces the following activities that occurred recently in Harlan Circuit Court: Jessica Powell, 34, of Lynch, had her probation revoked on Jan. 26 after failing to abide by the conditions of her supervision. Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney Jonathon C. Lee filed the motion to revoke Powell's probation and represented the Commonwealth at the hearing.

For much of the past year, the board of education has been waiting on a state-mandated process to work out so that local and state leaders are aware of and willing to support construction of new and renovated elementary schools in Harlan County.

    In my 40 years of memories from watching girls 52nd District basketball tournaments, not many can compare to 1988 when the Evarts Lady Cats beat the odds and both the Cawood Trojanettes and Cumberland Lady Skins to win the school's first and only district championship. Not too many people expected the Lady Cats to win that year, including me, who wrote a column before the tournament began that predicted Evarts would lose in the first round.
