    Thanks to a bee sting received as a kid, my first instinct when confronted with any sort of honey bee is to run in the opposite direction. It was fascinating and perspective-changing to have the chance last Tuesday to attend a meeting of the Heart of Virginia Beekeepers, where new and seasoned beekeepers use their time and energy to discuss their interactions and methods of caring for honey bees that are already benefiting the Heart of Virginia.

    Members of the Heart of Virginia Beekeepers braved the chilly weather Jan. 2 to hold their first meeting of the year and to discuss upcoming beekeeping classes. Though bees are often associated with the sunny weather and blooming of flowers that come with the spring and summer, beekeepers face a year-round task of keeping their bees sheltered and fed, and they hope their work will benefit everyone in the Heart of Virginia.

This week of celebration ignites school spirit with daily theme activities, pep rallies, campus wide picnic and powder-puff football game followed by a bonfire pep rally on Thursday night at 7 p.m. "The Fuqua School Student Cooperative Association, Alumni Association, Varsity and JV cheerleaders, band, and countless faculty, staff and students work hard to make Homecoming the best week of the year," officials said in a press release. According to the release, in keeping with tradition, upper school students will participate in Fuqua's Day of Service, helping with community service activities in and around the Farmville area.

"I felt really good about my performance," she said Wednesday.
