    On Aug. 17, 2016 at approximately 9:25 P.M., Mendocino County Sheriff's Deputies were dispatched to a reported carjacking that occurred at an unknown location on Henderson Road in Covelo, California. According to the report, The Sheriff's Office dispatch center was notified of the incident by Round Valley Tribal Housing Security personnel, who were contacted by the victims – two men, one 22 and one 33, both from Covelo - after their vehicle was stolen by force or fear by two unknown suspects.

The property, in the 23500 block of County Road 337D, also known as the Charlie Hurt Highway, is the same one where Timothy William Sweeting, 27, of Rohnert Park, is thought to have been killed in May, according to Mendocino County Sheriff's Office Capt.

    A Covelo bicyclist was airlifted to Enloe Medical Center in Chico with major injuries after his bike was struck by a motorist on State Route 162, south of Mina Road, July 1. Jeremiah Ray, 31, was riding east on SR 162 at about 3:30 p.m. when Tyler Berg Roberson, 29, of Covelo was driving his 2003 Ford Ranger behind Ray and attempted to pass Ray on the left, according to a report from the CHP-Garberville. For unknown reasons, the report stated, Ray turned his bicycle to the left directly in front of Roberson as he was about to pass.

    Nine students, representing Willits, Laytonville and Covelo received the Mendocino College Foundation's Adopt a Fifth-Grader Award, designed to motivate students early to start thinking about graduating from high school and to attend college. At each adopted school's awards ceremony, a foundation representative and program donors presented recipients with a $25 check and a certificate stating that a scholarship in the amount of $1,000 will be awarded when the student obtains a high school diploma and enrolls at Mendocino College.

Timothy William Sweeting, 27, of Rohnert Park, was identified Tuesday based upon observations of tattoos during a forensic autopsy, the Mendocino County Sheriff's Office said.
