After the contest, which the Cougars lost to Michigan State 42-17, Esquivel went back to the team hotel, where he met up with Hilinski's family.

The wet weather may have been a factor in a big rig that was pulling two trailers coming off the eastbound 10 Freeway near Ninth Street near Rialto around 2 a.m. Tuesday, which led the California Highway Patrol and Caltrans to shut down two lanes of the slick freeway. As of 5:15 a.m., crews were still working the crash, and the lanes were still blocked.
