    The Copley-Fairlawn City Schools Board of Education at the Aug. 18 meeting passed a resolution protesting adoption of Ohio House Bill 70, which took control of Youngstown City Schools from its local elected board of education and put the district in the hands of an appointed chief executive. The board resolution calls for the Ohio General Assembly to repeal the action.

    The Copley Board of Trustees intends to select a single-hauler residential trash service provider by mid-September, with the hope the company can begin servicing the township's 7,500 households as soon as Nov. 1. When Service Director Mark Mitchell asked the trustees, at the Aug. 19 board meeting, when they would like a single-hauler to begin picking up garbage and recyclables in the township, Trustee Helen Humphrys said, "As soon as possible." Mitchell said he would see if Nov. 1 would be a doable start date for the companies submitting bids, as the company selected would need some time to supply each household with a garbage and recycle bin.

    Copley trustees, at the Aug. 5 meeting, approved a three-year contract for Service Department laborers and pledged $50,000 to Bath Township in a reciprocal agreement to win grants for improvements in the Montrose shopping area. Six Service Department laborers represented by the International Brotherhood of Teamsters will get a 2.5 percent hourly wage increase for 2015 and 2 percent in 2016 and 2017, said Fiscal Officer Janice Marshall.
