    The Newberry County Sheriff's Office is asking for your assistance in locating a subject wanted for attempted murder. Matthew LeGrande Jackson, 28, whose last known address was 360 Water Works Road, Johnston, S.C., is wanted after he cut and stabbed a man on Sunset Road in Prosperity Wednesday night just before 8:30 p.m. There had been an argument between Jackson and the victim earlier in the day, and the Jackson came to where the victim was and attacked him with a sharp object.

    The estate of musician James Brown showed over $3 million in receipts on its 2016 accounting - and yet, trustee Russell Bauknight of Columbia continues to tout a 2010 appraisal that valued Brown's music empire at $4.7 million when he died on Christmas Day 2006. The music empire, including 850+ copyrights and rights to Brown's image, was left to Brown's "I Feel Good" Trust, an education charity for needy students in S.C. and Ga.

    South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson announced Thursday State Grand Jury criminal gang-related indictments of eight people in Richland, Lexington and Newberry Counties on murder, attempted murder, burglary, conspiracy and other offenses. The indictments allege the defendants committed these crimes as members of a criminal gang.

    To help honor veterans and their families during the holiday season, MSA Home Health and Hospice is hosting a Veterans Christmas on Dec. 15 from 9-11:30 a.m. The idea for Veterans Christmas was inspired during a veterans program at the Council on Aging this year. Theresa Halfacre, volunteer coordinator, said someone came up to her and mentioned how there should be a focus on veterans and their families as a whole.

    The 5000 block of Monticello Road, in Columbia, will be renamed Bishop Robert L. Bishop Way in a ceremony scheduled for 11 a.m. Oct. 20. Bishop, a native of Newberry and co-founder of Grace Christian Church and Grace Christian Ministries Inc., worked for more than 35 years in the Newberry community and throughout the state helping provide programs that would serve the holistic person. He died on June 7, 2006.
