    Going into the summer of 2018 many people felt an orange forest of construction trees lining the main street of Farwell might hurt local merchants and the 18th annual Farwell Lumberjack Festival, however all the construction cones in the state couldn't keep visitors away from the popular hometown festival at the village park. Sunny skies, comfortable temperatures and plenty of interesting things to see and do combined with a park full of crafty vendors offering everything from sports memorabilia to artistic creations kept visitors busy for hours July 28-29th in downtown Farwell.

    When the 2018-19 school year starts up this fall, the SPARKS program will serve students in all five local school districts in Clare and Gladwin Counties for the first time in its 15-year history. Staff at the Clare-Gladwin Regional Education Service District, which oversees the afterschool and summer program that is free to students and their families, recently received word of new federal funding in the amount of $810,000 per year for the next five years that will allow SPARKS to reopen sites in secondary schools in Beaverton, Farwell, Gladwin and Harrison.

    Amber Grandy, 41 of Coleman, was injured Tuesday when she was hit by a car in the crosswalk of the intersection of Fourth and McEwan in Clare. Clare Police Chief Brian Gregory said the accident happened around 3:30 p.m. when Grandy was crossing McEwan from west to east.

The Community Wellness Health Fair, held on March 24 at the Coleman Family Center was a success! 24 vendors free services were offered, such as neck scans by Adio Chiropractic, blood sugar tests from Great Lakes Home Care Unlimited, blood pressure checks by Family Medicine Associates, Child ID Kits by Mason's from the Warren Lodge, and hearing assessments by Miracle Ear.

    James Eric Davis Jr. was located and arrested just after midnight Saturday morning for the Central Michigan University shooting of his parents James Eric Davis Sr., 48, and Diva Jeenen Davis, 47 in his 4th floor room around 8:30 a.m. Friday morning. The murders happened in one of the Towers Complex residential units.
