    Jason Newcomb was struck and killed by a car at 9:15 p.m. Thursday, according to Wyoming County Sheriff C.S Parker. Bobby Joe Hatfield, 47, of Coal Mountain was a passenger in the vehicle and is charged with being an accessory in leaving the scene of an accident causing death.

    One man was killed and another man injured in a wreck involving an ATV and a truck Saturday afternoon in Wyoming County, police said. An ATV being operated by Joshua Neace and Brett Atnip was traveling on Coal Mountain Road and turned onto state Route 97 when the machine collided with a truck at about 4:30 p.m. Neace died at a hospital after the crash.

    A jury will decide whether a coal company owned by Democratic gubernatorial candidate Jim Justice contaminated the drinking water wells of residents in Wyoming County. Local media outlets report the jury is scheduled to begin deliberations Thursday in the case against Justice-controlled companies Dynamic Energy Inc. and Mechel Bluestone Inc. Fifteen families who live near Dynamic Energy's surface mining complex at Coal Mountain say the operation contaminated their wells to the point that the water is no longer safe to drink.
