    James W. Parker Middle School mathematics teacher Brooke Irwin was one of thirteen 2014 MAC Grant Winners in the Erie region. Irwin received $500 to purchase additional CBR 2 motion sensors for the classroom, which will help students physically demonstrate mathematical functions using a graphing calculator.

    A hunter from Warren County has the largest black bear processed at a Pennsylvania Game Commission checkstation during the first three days of the season. The Game Commission said James M. Hultbert, of Pittsfield, checked a male estimated to have weighed 677 pounds after he shot it in Warren County.

    State police said a man was killed when a vehicle trying to avoid a deer crashed into the victim's oncoming vehicle on a rural western Pennsylvania road. Troopers from the Clarion barracks said Scott Smith, 53, of New Kensington, and his wife, Stephanie, 55, were southbound on Route 66 near Red Bank when their car was struck by a northbound SUV at about 10 p.m. Saturday.
