    A Charlton Memorial Hospital physician implanted what Southcoast Health is calling the "world's smallest pacemaker," becoming the first hospital in Southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island to do the procedure, Southcoast officials announced Dec. 1. According to Southcoast, its physicians elected to use the Medtronic Micra Transcatheter Pacing System because unlike traditional pacemakers, the device does not require cardiac wires or a surgical pocket under the skin to deliver a pacing therapy.
