On March 17, a federal judge in Charlottesville ruled the companies, Star Forestry Service, Independent Labor Service, and White Pine Reforestation and Landscaping as well as the owners Devin and Amy Spears-Thomas, violated federal law.

    The crash occurred just before 4 p.m. Tuesday west of Charlottesville, near the intersection with Bloomfield Road when an Audi that was heading east crossed the double yellow line and hit a westbound vehicle head-on. Police say 81-year-old Caroline G. Wayne of Ivy, who was driving west on Route 250, died at the scene.
