    Members of Burlington's Front Street United Methodist Church were among North Carolina residents who have just returned from a mission trip focused on relief efforts in Puerto Rico in the wake of Hurricane Maria, and are now advocating for continued support from the local community. Twenty-one adults from three churches - Unity United Methodist Church in Thomasville, Myers Park United Methodist Church in Charlotte, and nearly a dozen from Front Street - came together to help those affected by the hurricane.

    A technicality ended Kyle Rico Miller's shoplifting trial in January, but a jury convicted him quickly this week, so he made a run for it. Miller, 47, of 5549 Doverstone Court, Charlotte, tried to flee the courthouse Wednesday, Oct. 11, after a jury found him guilty of felony larceny from a merchant, but deputies with the Alamance County Sheriff's Office, which handles security at the Criminal Courts Building, restrained him.
